Followers can also be considered subscribers of sorts. You follow somebodies blogs just like you would get a magazine in the mail, or the newspaper on you front lawn. A Follower doesn't have to follow just a blog, they can follow their favorite sports team or sports personality.
Followers keep everything in motion, because of their ability to know what is popular in today's culture. Without people that follow stuff, nothing would be popular. You know when somethings popularity is about to fade, because they will announce that a TV program, magazine, or newspaper will end soon.
But that is the way trends go, one minute your hot, then the next minute your chopped liver. That's how society works, and we all have to learn to live with it.
